Neil Haden is founder of the Uncle Neil and Friends Toy Drive. Mark Caruana is a high school teacher in Toronto.

Neil shared stories about meeting Jeff Healey and Rik Emmett and his wildly popular annual Toy Drive.

Mark shared stories about repairing guitars for RUSH and his one of a kind phonograph collection.

Women and Sport in 2016

Last month I found myself in New York City attending the 2016 version of Advertising Week.
Similar to Team Canada, female athletes led Team USA in Rio this year in medal count. However, there still so much gender disparity in sports.

The Stranger

The Stranger is Gord Downie’s first single from his new album, Secret Path.

“Gord Downie began Secret Path as ten poems incited by the story of Chanie Wenjack, a twelve year-old boy who died fifty years ago on October 22, 1966, in flight from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ontario, walking home to the family he was taken from over 400 miles away. Gord was introduced to Chanie Wenjack (miscalled “Charlie” by his teachers) by Mike Downie, his brother, who shared with him Ian Adams’ Maclean’s story from February 6, 1967, “The Lonely Death of Charlie Wenjack.””

Last night, at We Day Family, Gord performed this emotional and haunting song in front of 20,000 children and parents.

We Day Family

Last night 20,000 students, parents and guardians filled the Air Canada Centre for the evening programming of We Day, We Day Family.

We witnessed inspiring stories and performances from a wide variety of people including the Barenaked Ladies, Chris Hadfield, Rick Hanson, Gord Downie, Lily Singh, Paula Abdul, Pearl Wenjack, Hedley, Nelly Furtado and many others!

The focus for the event was to inspire children and their families to make a difference in their family, community, country and world. A wonderful and inspiring event!

Episode #49: Ron Tite

Trained at Toronto’s legendary Second City, Ron was named one of the “Top 10 Creative Canadians” by Marketing Magazine. His work has been recognized by organizations from The London International Advertising Awards to The Advertising & Design Club of Canada.

He is founder and CEO of The Tite Group and Executive Producer & Host of the Canadian Comedy Award-winning show Monkey Toast. He has written for a number of other television series, penned a children’s book, and wrote, performed, and produced the play, The Canadian Baby Bonus.

His new book, Everyone’s An Artist (Or At Least They Should Be), was recently published.

Oh, he’s also a big Blue Jays fan just like me!

Cole’s work focuses primarily on social justice, equity, immigration, systemic racism, and poverty.

Cole currently writes for the Toronto Star and can also be heard on Toronto’s CFRB 1010.
